1. What is the story behind your Twitch channel name?
I play American football as the quarterback, decided to one day call myself the Face of the Franchise as a wind up….it didn’t stick but I continue to push it. Went for Franchize to shorten it and I messed up twitter (I think) so had to change to the z
2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?
Like many I have been playing video games since a young boy which my memory goes back as far as the N64. Probably because after primary school me and my brother would have to go to my mums work after school which is where it stayed. Favourite game on it was Pokémon Stadium
All-time favourite game is definitely Gears of War as it was my first real experience of online multiplayer. I had been invited down to a tournament in England by the clan I was in at the time but my parents wouldn’t let me….who knows if it would have changed thing for me
3. What/who inspired you to start streaming?
I used to watch Dota 2 streams a lot, mostly the tournaments though. Plus, one of my mates did some streaming just so we could see his screen so I just thought I’d try it
4. When did you start streaming?
I started in Aug’16 but then took a break about Apr’17 until Jan’18 which I made my grand return to entertaining.
5. How did you find the first few weeks/months of streaming? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)
Tbh it was tough. I had done some research into streaming of course but that was all mostly the technical side of things with the big tip to stream something small. So, I played Batman and made small progress with some people coming in to say hi.
It wasn’t until I responded to an auto DM on twitter regarding someone trying to help small streamers that I realised the importance of networking and treating myself as brand.
6. How did you grow your stream? How did you network?
Like I said above I started networking. When I say network, I mean actually making friends, mostly through discord, while expanding who recognised my name. I kept looking for a variety of communities to join, not because I didn’t fit but because it offered me the opportunity to connect with some amazing people!
Eventually I found a community home in which I primarily stayed, helped grow and became an admin for. This gave me the bonus opportunity of networking through helping others who were going through the growing pains of beginning a stream which I had already
7. What has been your proudest moment while streaming?
I completed a 24-hour charity stream in Dec ’16 and raised over £600 for MacMillan Cancer! I am definitely one for my sleep so it was a real challenger but was so grateful for all those who donated, gave me a shout out, popped in to say hi and kept me entertained.
8. How did you find the technical side of streaming? Setting up your stream, etc?
There is definitely plenty advice out there to help and within communities there are also those more competent who are always willing to give support. Thankfully I just focused on a few things at once and slowly built my stream. Slow progression allowed me to do each aspect correctly while giving me satisfaction of seeing the stream develop.
9. What do you enjoy most about your streaming career?
I really like just making people laugh and hopefully bringing a bright spot to someone’s day. Sometimes this is also done by being a viewer to those who don’t have many viewers, chatting to them for a while and making their day. Nothing better than seeing/hearing the joy of someone when you comment in their stream.
10. What don't you enjoy so much about streaming?
Time. It takes a lot to be successful really. I don’t enjoy my lack of time I can give to each week. It’s a tough constant grind and I think I was on the right track in the past but I just started doing too much, especially for other people than adding to my irl I just couldn’t commit to that desired level anymore.
11. What are you short term and long term goals for your stream?
Just to keep steadily growing and entertaining. I play video games anyway so just stream it at the same time. I don’t really have long term goals other than to meet and get to know as many incredible people as I can.
12. What advice would you give anyone looking to start streaming?
Take it one step at a time and make sure your primary enjoyment is the game you’re playing. The viewers etc should just be bonuses on top of that. Also, don’t go in thinking you will get partnered/make a career out of it as this will affect your streaming mentality and likely produce a far lower quality as your mood will be affected due to low viewer numbers etc……Main point, just have fun.
13. Finally, what other streamers do you enjoy watching?
No one in particular tbh because I like to visit lots of streamers.
But don’t discount those low viewer streamers based on numbers as there are some incredible people at the bottom who just haven’t quite been recognised yet.
Franchize is just a laid-back streamer who will definitely make you laugh and help you on your path. Who knows the unicorn onesie might make a return one day which was a large staple of his in the past.
You will find him playing multiple games such as Overwatch, PUBG and whatever single player game he is currently on.
His stream can be found at www.twitch.tv/franchize1140 and his social media at https://twitter.com/Franchize1140
