1. What is the story behind your channel name?
I get asked this a lot, so my name is Jon and at school people started calling me Jonno for some reason. Then after a sports day when people were cheering me on saying "go Jonno, go!!" I was joining an online multiplayer game with one of my friends and he suggested the name and it's stuck ever since.
2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?
The first game I ever played was Pro Evolution Soccer 2 on the PS1 (still play it occasionally) and I used to play it everyday before and after school when I was 5. It all kicked off from there and I play a vast, eclectic mix of games now from things such as World of Tanks to Rocket League to Rainbow Six Siege to Golf It and everything in between.
3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?
Oh boy there's a few people to blame for this. My good friend mranderson336 got me into making YouTube videos, as well as a guy called TheMightyJingles. As for streaming there are a few people such as Circonflexes (a big WoT streamer) and MaxwellPlays. I'm sure there are people I'm missing but these were the main people.
4. When did you start creating content on the internet?
I started around January this year for YouTube and I think by March I'd decided to start streaming.
5. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)
If you can think of mistakes to make when streaming I probably did it. The one that sticks out in my head was when I decided to mess about with the settings/properties for my microphone and for ages it sounded like I was underwater. The worst part was that I never realised and no one ever told me, I only found out months after when I looked back at a clip.
6. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?
I've not really networked with the intent to grow to be honest, the closest I get is becoming friends with someone and then we just decide to stream something together. This properly kicked off when I joined my current World of Tanks clan and streamed with the boss Niki. Since then I joined a great group called The Dysfunctional Bunch and I've grown even more since.
7. What has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment in terms of my own stream is getting affiliate and almost reaching 250 followers already.
But my proudest moment is actually helping friends of mine reach goals and milestones, we've had quite a few so far already and there will be more to fall soon.
8. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?
When you first start it's overwhelming and can put you off, but you just have to stick it out and get everything done. Once you've done most of it then you don't have to change until you're comfortable doing so. Having a friend watch a stream and tell you how the game looks and how the sound levels are is really useful. Also, Google and YouTube are the real mvp's, everything you could possibly need is there if you look for it.
9. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?
There's so much to enjoy, but most of all I love entertaining people and making them laugh whenever I can (even if it's just me getting salty at a game). Providing a friendly place for people to come and chill is great too, or something to watch after a long day.
10. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?
Occasionally I'll get people come in with a pre-conceived idea of how they want me to stream and they don't like it when I do stuff as I always have done and not their way. It's rare but it happens.
11. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?
Short term is to start streaming more often again (I'm taking a break to focus on my boxing comeback for a little bit and to get in a better head space), I think I'm 3 away from 250 so that would be amazing too.
Long term I'd say is hopefully reaching 500 Twitch followers and 100 YouTube subs (may happen next year). Hopefully I'm going to have a website up soon-ish and start a couple of podcasts that will go up on my YT and other places at some point.
Even longer term would be to try and break 750/1000 Twitch followers and to try and get some possible sponsorships.
12. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?
Start creating content that you would want to watch yourself and most importantly have fun doing it.
13. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?
YouTube: Smii7y, mranderson336, TheMightyJingles, Circonflexes, MarkGFL
Twitch: WWZed, Joebelle, GrindlerGaming, InzaneSane, Nikitaqa1, Haloplasm
