JoeR247 Interviews... KayTMo

1. What is the story behind your channel name?

It's an old nickname, Emo Katy gradually became KayTMo.

2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?

First consoles I got as a young'un were the original PS and the N64. Since then I've had every iteration of PS at some point but I do play a lot on PC. I tend to lean more towards RPGs/MMO's or story driven games but I have dabbled in FPS games a few times.

All time favourite game I think has to be World of Warcraft just purely for the amount of time I've spent on it (played for 12 years).

3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?

I was out of work last year and as I'm sure a lot of us do in that situation, your sleep schedule becomes a bit erratic. I ended up on Twitch one evening looking for a YouTube alternative for things to watch and came across a couple of streamers (will mention below) who made me think "I could do this!" And so I did!

4. When did you start creating content on the internet?

28th December 2017.

5. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)

I found them really fun actually. I think my main amusing story is that when I started streaming, my set up was so cheap that I didn't have a desk or even a chair. I had a blanket and pillow on my living room floor, my desk was a foot stool and my monitor was my TV that I hooked my PC up to! A few months in though it really did take it's toll on my back and I did invest in a desk.

One mistake I made was watching the viewer count. I know we've all done it at some point but I think that was my biggest barrier at first.

6. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?

I've grown my channel just through chatting in a few discords over the last few months, making friends and talking on Twitter. I try to get myself out there by starting conversations on various social medias or just by watching others and chatting. It's a slow way but it's the steady way and it works for me.

7. What has been your proudest moment so far?

I think my proudest moment was getting to my first big follower goal (500) and doing a 24hr charity stream. If always said that I would do one (and others on further goals) and I raised £300 for the retired greyhound trust.

8. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?

I watched a LOT of videos on YouTube about it. I found that most of them were aimed at people who either had money or had the kit already, which neither worked for me. So I started researching into cheap or free alternatives and I found an absolute gold mine of information on it.

Things ranging from actual stream set up (looking on free or 2nd hand websites for kit), programs (free versions of expensive programs like Photoshop), even down to little things like in the beginning how to use your phone as a 2nd monitor (as some have the ability to split screen).

9. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?

I really enjoy the laughs. I don't think there's enough laughter in the world and Twitch gives me that opportunity to either make people laugh or laugh myself.

10. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?

I don't enjoy some of the competitiveness and often times jealousy that comes with streaming. It happens to everyone I think as we're all human, and it's something that I don't think anyone will be able to entirely get over. But the goal is to be able to get over it as a community.

11. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?

Short term I would like to build a more steady community around one game (currently Skyrim) as I felt that variety streaming meant I was flitting about too much.

Long term I would like to be able to build enough of a community and voice that I can host charity streams on a regular basis.

12. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?

Money isn't everything. Having a £££ set up does not make someone a good content creator. Don't be sucked into believing it does, you can do amazing things with very little. You just have to be creative!

Ps. Turn off the view count!

13. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?

The first streamers on Twitch that made me consider streaming were Roserainblood and ScullyBB. Both are so lovely to their communities and are both amazing content creators.

Others include FlamingMonocle, Pwnyplays, DeviCat, Gitsie and Gam3r_Kitty. All are amazing and have wonderful communities.
