JoeR247 Interviews... THEnickyducky

1. What is the story behind your channel name?

Most of my social media’s are “nickyducky” so I originally wanted my YouTube to be that. However after searching YouTube for nickyducky I found that there was already a channel with that name and the algorithm picked out a bunch of videos with either Nicky or Nikki or Ducky in the title. I added “THE” to the beginning of my channel name hence “THEnickyducky” and since then it’s the top result whenever you search that. I’m still working toward getting my personalized YouTube URL but I feel like that is a long way off.

Growing up, most of my friends would call me Ducky, so of course my channel branding HAD to be a rubber duck.

2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?

My first console was the NES and I’ve been a gamer ever since. Ive gone through NES, Game Boy, SNES, Master System, Master System II, Mega Drive, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, XBox, XBox 360, PS3, PS4, XboxOne and currently on PS4Pro. I’m definitely more of a PlayStation man (I have the button symbols tattooed across my right hand fingers)

In terms of favourite game, it was Mario Bros 3 for the longest time but I think I have to say Uncharted 4 right now is my favourite game ever. The whole series gripped me from day one and it’s been such an amazing journey to play through them. I’m LOVING Red Dead 2 at the moment but I still think Uncharted 4 is my favourite just because of the overall journey through the series.

3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?

I’ve only really just begun my adventure into it. It’s really early days and I’m at a plateau at the moment where I can’t seem to get many viewers or subscribers. It doesn’t bother me too much though. I’m not looking to get famous through it or anything like that (of course it would be pretty awesome to make a living playing games) but I just enjoy chilling out at night when the kids are in bed and playing games. Sometimes I’ll turn on the livestream and just try to forget I’m even live. That way if it’s a quite stream, that’s ok, and if people stop by and hang out for a bit, that’s a bonus. I don’t really think I have too many

inspirations? I watch a lot of people’s channels but I don’t think anyone really inspired me to get into it, I just thought it was a cool thing to be able to do, and the PS4 makes it so easy. (I just wish they could find a way to have sharefactory incorporate overlays into livestream videos and not just when editing clips.)

4. When did you start creating content on the internet?

Like I said, I’ve only really been trying to get into it this year and it’s more of a hobby at the moment than anything serious. I don’t really have the time to dedicate to a proper schedule and I think that’s where I’m suffering on viewership. I’d like to try and get at least one video a week posted on the weekends and that’s something I’ll be looking more into moving forward

5. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)

My GTA online live-streams have been the most fun to do just because I would have a few friends in the party also and it’s always a good time with lots of laughing. The language can get pretty colourful sometimes but it was always a fun time. As mentioned before I don’t really have THAT many viewers on my live-streams, I think the most I had at one time was about 12 lol, but that’s ok.

I remember checking one of my live-streams on YouTube the following morning and I’d gotten about 250 views, but that was probably the most I’ve had so far.

6. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?

Still working on it. I made myself a hoody with my channel logo on just to wear around town etc. you never know who might pay attention, right? It’s all about self promotion and if I can do anything to try and grow the channel and get more eyes on it, I’m interested Moving forward I’d love to get a series going on my YouTube where I can challenge other youtubers to a game of fifa. I think that would be a good way to get viewers, as well as get to network with some other gamers

7. What has been your proudest moment so far?

I think the livestream with 250 some views. That was a fun night. Hitting 50 subscribers was pretty cool too lol, but hopefully it won’t take forever to get to 100. Baby steps, you know?

8. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?

I LOVE how easy it is to get going on PS4. To livestream straight to twitch or YouTube is PERFECT. There are a few bugs here and there but it’s so easy to set up. I just got myself an El Gato to try and dabble in getting the overlays set up etc, but that’s a chore especially having to control everything from the Mac.

I wish ShareFactory or PS4 in general would allow you to select an overlay before you go live. That would be the icing on the cake for me

9. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?

I just love playing games. Love the social aspect of playing online with some friends. We can all be enjoying a beer and talking while playing games and it’s just a great way to chill. Edited videos can sometimes take hours out of my night getting them done but it’s a hobby, not a chore.

10. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?

I guess streams when nobody shows up are pretty demoralizing but as I said before, it’s not the end of the world either because I’m still enjoying the game regardless.

11. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?

Short term just to try and post more content. I’m looking forward to when Red Dead Online comes out cause I’ll be able to do a lot more funny live streams. I’d like to do some uncharted livestream play throughs at some point too Long term obviously I’d love to really grow my Channel, but we’ll see.

12. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?

Don’t give up! Even if nobody shows up, just enjoy the ride and done get too discouraged.

13. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?

Not at all video game related but I love watching urban exploration videos, like Exploring with Josh or Exploring With Fighters which is more UK based.

Just a Middle Aged kid who never wants to grow up. you can find my YouTube under THEnickyducky and find me on most socials as nickyducky
