JoeR247 Interviews... Zarak002

February 24, 2019

1. What is the story behind your channel name?

I used to be into sci-fi when i was about 13 years old and pretended to have a Star Wars type universe. Zarak was an evil space warlord who wanted to destroy everything like the Death Star i suppose and the name has stuck ever since. 002 reflects that You Tube came after Twitch (original name Zarak001)

2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?

I have been gaming since the 1980s when i had a Spectrum 48K and 128K +2. However i did take a break between 1992 and 1999 when i eventually purchased the PS1. Been with Sony ever since. My all-time favourite game is Mass Effect 2 on PS3. Nothing is going to beat it, soundtrack still gives me goosebumps and the end mission is the best i have ever encountered. A matter of life & death.

3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?

I was originally inspired to do commentary on Project Cars for Twitch back in early 2016 after watching and commenting on a live stream. Became part of a FB group and regularly did commentary for a few months until the group disbanded due to disagreements. I then went to recording content on You Tube before someone suggested that i should do live streaming and rest is history.

4. When did you start creating content on the internet?

Early 2016

5. What is your content creation setup. Specs and accessories?

Just live stream directly from PS4 to either You Tube or Twitch. Do have a PS camera. Want to get a new gaming PC and possibly fibre optic broadband so that i can use a much more professional setup i.e streamlabs, obs.

6. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)

The one thing that stands out is at the end of the Bloodborne stream where i was about to wrap up and i promptly fell off a ladder to my doom. I was naturally nervous to start live streaming as i didn't know if i would be successful particularly when i had agreed to use a facecam after reaching 200 subs.

7. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?

By being a member of an awesome You Tube community and opening my Twitter account to expand my horizons. Have also been part of a Discord community for nearly a year and have since joined another community.

8. What has been your proudest moment so far?

Getting to 400 subscribers on You Tube. At time of writing, being eligible for Twitch Affiliate status.

9. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?

In terms of live streaming, it was relatively simple as i just use the PS4. However, i have had help in terms of art creation from a subscriber that i have known for well over 2 years now.

10. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?

Just being allowed to share my experience of gameplay with other people and interacting with them. Having a laugh at my expense particularly when i fail constantly at stealth, driving, flying and (coughs) falling off ladders.

11. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?

Lack of notifications from You Tube and the bug that involves PS4 chat being hit and miss on screen when streaming to You Tube. Sometimes difficult to keep up with a schedule due to mental health issues e.g anxiety.

12. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?

Short term goal is to just carry on building the base on which i started and continue to entertain people where possible. Long term i would love to improve the set up, get better internet connection, have a better PC instead of this simple laptop, maybe one day achieve either Twitch Partner or monetisation on You Tube (wishful thinking).

13. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?

Go for it. Just be yourself and don't try to copy others otherwise u will end up being a clone and be false. Don't worry about views and low subs to start off with as they will grow. Be consistent with your content and when u do it. Be part of communities and interact with other people who then maybe interested in your content. Obviously don't go looking for subs (sub 4 sub) otherwise u will get short shrift.

14. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?

I watch plenty of creators but the stand outs for me are: The Badger Show, XaineGaming, ClassicGamerX11, Louu951, GameRiot, Squirrel and Spinjumpking. You can find them either on You Tube or Twitch.
