JoeR247 Interviews... Franchize1140

March 18, 2019

1. What is the story behind your channel name?

Well, as many people know, I play Quarterback (American Football) at time of writing this semi-professionally in Prague. But back home as a way to wind people up I self proclaimed myself as the Face of the Franchise. This was actually my first account name on twitch However, I eventually rebranded and change to Franchize for shorter.

The z was actually because of a mistake on twitter so changed it and ran with it on all platforms

2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?

I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember which started off with the Nintendo 64 and Gameboy (no colour) From there I adapted to the times and bought the PS1 -> PS2 -> Xbox 360 and now PC. I have enjoyed a variety of games but most of all anything competitive. This started with Gears of War, then CoD4 (played hundreds of hours on this), then Dota 2 (2,500+) and now Overwatch and Rocket League.

Think my biggest drive for these games are is the ability to learn and become better. I always have things I can improve on and this can be seen in how I play against others.

3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?

My content creating started due to a love of memes and, hopefully, being entertaining. I am always playing games so though I'd combine the lot and try it out...never looked back

4. When did you start creating content on the internet?

This started by creating a Madden League with my teammates which I streamed so others could watch my games.

From their I experimented with other games, found communities and it exploded from there due to all the friendships I have made.

5. What is your content creation setup. Specs and accessories?

Right now the only "big things" technical wise is I have are a blue Yeti and a C920 webcam.

I would like to expand this to include a stream deck so I can apply my creative side far easier (hello easy gif button) as well bookmark clip times to turn into videos

6. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)

Honestly, the first few weeks were tough. I started streaming the Batman games under the ever popular advice of pick a low streamed game and make it easier for you to be find. Tbh it actually wasn't that bad and I would have 2-4 people joining. It wasn't until I responded to an auto-dm (usually made with good intentions) that I joined a guy from the US's discord. That's when I started to learn about networking. Will be ever grateful to him.

From there I have joined multiple communities and been big parts of them just because I love being creative like introducing community tournaments, setting up podcasts, just doing things with others And through all that experience I am still 50/50 to start a stream muted

7. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?

It was actually easy really. I think I am good at making friends because I am genuinely interested in peoples lives. The world is so huge now that I can't experience it all but I can hear other peoples stories, their perspective on things.

Always live by the rule if you find out what someone is passionate about you can get them talking for hours with ease From there my name became more noticeable and people were more likely to stop by

8. What has been your proudest moment so far?

My proudest moment was completing a 24 hr stream for MacMillan cancer and raising £650. The fact that I could use something I was passionate about to do some real good was unreal.

That experience has then led on to many other events I have helped with and got involved in for similarly amazing causes

9. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?

I like many have found it quite tough. However, there are many searches on google that can help or some amazing people to support you. I have tried not to overwhelm myself with everything at once and just continually tinker and add.

This not only makes it easier for me but when I look back the changes of where I was to where I am are heart warming

10. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?

There are two answers to this. The first are the friendships. The number of people I have connected with that I would never have done before is crazy. People who are kind, generous, funny and have similar passions as me. Secondly, it's hopefully making people smile and have fun.

This can be through either watching my stream or getting involved in whatever community thing I am doing next. Bringing people together to have fun is just a blast

11. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?

This is the lack of time I can commit to it. I am always saying IRL always has to take priority and I hopefully lead by example with this.

I have suffered before because I let it take over me such that I stopped seeing my friends. It has an almost addictive nature to it which needs to be managed. Real life responsibilities, friends and family can't be put to the side for it.

12. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?

Short term I hope to bring some more consistency to my streams but right now it is very chill because I have so much going on in my life that has a deadline to it that probably isn't too far away.

As I get older and my body can't handle things as well I'll slowly increase my content creation.

13. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?

It's hard to think of it like this because we are all so passionate about our own content creating. But be more than just your content creations, be an interesting person.

Tweet about stuff in your life, things that interest you and not just your content all the time. It's not 100% of who you are so don't make your twitter it.

14. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?

Love watching eSports. There are games, like Dota, that I can appreciate so much mentally but my execution is so poor. Seeing the best in the world being able to execute these things and more I couldn't imagine....it's a thing of beauty.

I hope it continues to grow, and I think its heading in the right direction, and allow gaming to be more accepted in society.
