1. What is the story behind your channel name?
To be honest, my brother and I were stumped when first creating a PSN account 15 odd years ago and we came up with this. I obviously had to lose my hair and grow a beard as a commitment to the name.
2. What is your video game history/background and all time
My parents bought the Sega 16-bit a few months after I was born in 1989. I think they used to block out the sounds of me crying but one day I picked up the controller at the ripe old age of 2 weeks old and finished Wonder Boy before my eyes had opened. Some of this story isn't true.
3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?
I started pressing buttons on the PS4 and ended up streaming a long time before I knew I was. Discovered Twitch and a couple of rad dudes (MediocreJedi and Chuxy) who let me piggy back off of them and it's been a journey since.
4. When did you start creating content on the internet?
I used to be in a garage band back in the early 2000's. We uploaded a lot of our terrible cell phone recordings of our terrible music back then. That turned into music production and some Dj-ing and eventually I got into live streams (officially) in February 2018.
5. What is your content creation setup. Specs and accessories?
PS4 Pro (whatever magic is in that machine), an Elgato HD capture card, Scarlett Solo Studio mic (borrowed), whatever headset I can grab, a $3 piece of green sheeting for a green screen and a very terrible webcam (borrowed).
It works, just don't touch it!
6. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)
Cringy! I found myself self-promoting quite a bit, getting shouted at, rinsing and repeating that formula for a few months before some people picked up this little piece of dough and turned it into a weirdly shaped bread.
Funniest story was probably recently with the addition of a green screen that I have pretty much against my head. I'm not very aware of the space around me and keep smashing my head on it and breaking things around me. I'm special... My mom thinks I'm bearable.
7. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?
Truthfully, I just drift between streams and connect with people whose content I enjoy. I feel the best way to network is to get to know people and let them get to know you. It's an organic growth...
I have no intentions behind meeting people other than getting to know them and if they find me cool (firstly, they're delusional) then that's cool.
8. What has been your proudest moment so far?
We've been asked several times to do an online interactive musical gig (we call it Bum Jam) for a series of causes. One in particular was amazing, for a boy named Carter who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.
We were super honoured to be asked to play and we received so many raids and support. I guess I'm more proud of the attention we can drive towards worthy causes.
I'm also proud that I haven't forgotten to wear pants... I do that sometimes.
9. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?
It wasn't too bad, mainly because I had some incredible people assisting me. MissChippy helped me set up my Elgato HD (She's incredible by the way!) and then I have super mods in Chuxy and MediocreJedi who are so meticulous about my stream.
Chuxy has gone as far as clipping my stream, throwing it into Premier Pro to get the exact adjustment on my delay to sync video and audio.
These people aren't human.
10. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?
Chatting! I've met some of the most amazing people. It still blows my mind that someone will give up part of their day and spend it with me.
I don't think we realise how big of a deal that is but it's something that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling deep in my beard.
11. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?
The fake competition. It kinda feels like people feel the need to compete against one another for viewers and attention. There's always some debate about boobs or something and frankly someone else's stream is mutually exclusive to yours.
People are quick to criticize others but don't realise that it's their job to make their content attractive by improving their content, not someone else's.
There's no competition, it's a network of content creators that should be helping each other.
12. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?
On the gaming side, I guess it's just about being better at games (I've below average at being average). On the musical side, I want to turn our Bum Jam into an interactive gig where bands and artists collab, take requests and perform their stuff globally. We have a lot of plans in the works but it always starts with equipment.
13. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?
There's no opportune time to start, just get going. You will make mistakes, learn from them. You will achieve big things, stay humble. Mostly, don't create content that you wouldn't watch yourself.
Don't make streaming about the money or the fame, that pulls you from why you started.
If those things happen while you're creating the content you WANT to create, you will enjoy every second of it.
14. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?
Tried copy-pasting my following list in here, didn't work.
Honestly though, my following list is a great place to find cool content. Here are some highlights but really, there's so many to mention:
Chuxy, MediocreJedi & Heyitsmina - Great, genuine people with hilarious content.
DoodyBeard - Nobody has as much energy as this guy.
Cardboardcowboy - If you want an example of incredible, original content, check him out!
RB3367 and HFrancis007 - Because they're part of the Bum Boyz and I'm obliged to mention them (they know where I live).
THEED3 - One of my favourite South African streamers
Boschmerchant - One of my favourite Irish streamers
MissChippy - One of my favourite poms
SunniBunny - One of my favourite Norwegians
JonathanOng & livi_in_the_middle - Musical streams that will blow your mind
TomBonesTV (Doesn't really stream too much now) - Art and radness
