1. What is the story behind your channel name?
My channel name originally came from an inside joke with my school friends, however late last year (2019), I decided to switch my name from AlextheKactus to CaptainAlexKactus due to the large amount of Sea of Thieves I played.
It has also provided a larger variety of names for people to call, some just call me Alex, others call me Captain and the very rare few call me Kactus.
2. What is your video game history/background and all time favourite game?
The first ever video game I played was Call of Duty: Black Ops on the Xbox 360 as my parents were never fond of my brother and I playing video games. I started becoming a proper gamer very late. It wasn't until I was about 16 where i played games single day for hours on end. Due to anxiety all of my games were offline and against bots as i could not handle the idea of talking to strangers online.
I wouldn't be able to have a favourite game of all time, as it changes. I used to really love FPS games such as Call of Duty but then slowly switched to my love hate relationship game of Subnautica and Sea of Thieves.
3. What/Who inspired you to start creating content on the internet?
I watched a lot of small streamers and see them grow from sitting at 20 viewers to now well over 200 people each stream. Since coming to terms with my gender I have not seen much representation across the platform so I wanted to provide that unique point of view to people.
I also aspired and looked up to several Youtubers when I was a child, such as JackSepticEye and Markiplier.
4. When did you start creating content on the internet?
I started streaming on the 10th of May 2020.
5. What is your content creation setup. Specs and accessories?
Trident Z 16GB
Corsair K95 Platinum
Razer Lancehead Tournament Editions
Astro A40 TRs
6. How did you find the first few weeks/months of content creation? (any funny stories/mistakes/highlights?)
As I have only been streaming for 2 months i have found them amazing. It has been way more challenging on my mental health than expected. One of my highlights was my birthday stream, in which everyone came together, got me up to 55 subs, over the 150 follower mark and my highest ever average. It is safe to say that it was my best birthday and stream of all time.
After my birthday stream, everything started to go down hill but recently it has been picking back up and I have been getting a lot of support and engagement from my viewers.
7. How did you grow your channel? How did you network?
I joined several discord groups however I only found 1 was working out for me. I managed to make friends with another incredible streamer who helped me grow to a certain point. I have found that raid bigger streams (those who sit between 80 and 100) has given me an opportunity to get my name out there.
Also being active in big streamers channels and being friendly has also allowed me to get my name known.
8. What has been your proudest moment so far?
As strange as it may sound, my proudest moment has to be when I came out as non-binary and using they/them pronouns as everyone respected me and no one has turned on me in the past like they have done before. It made me feel valued and accepted and loved.
9. How did you find the technical side of content creation? Setting up your channel, etc?
I found it relatively easy, I knew what i wanted and tried my hardest to create it myself. For example all of my overlays and panels are self made and i wish to make more graphics in the future.
10. What do you enjoy most about your content creation hobby/career?
I enjoy the community that I am building. We all share so much love and support to everyone, no matter what.
The idea of bringing support to people as a community and an individual has always made me happy, especially for LGBTQIA+ identifying people as they may not have anyone at home to support them.
11. What don't you enjoy so much about your content creation hobby/career?
As much as I haven't experienced much of this but I cannot stand the drama and politics when it comes to twitch.
It is very much pointless and some people take things way out of context or get far to butt hurt at me asking them not to do something.
12. What are you short term and long term goals for your channel/s?
My short term goals is to be able to keep spreading my love and support for everyone as well as growing my channel. I want to create a YouTube channel and finally start uploading on to there but have been held back a lot.
My long term goal is to be able to stream full time and be a decent sized content creator.
13. What advice would you give anyone looking to get into content creation?
Take your time and don't rush in head first with 5+ hour long streams 7 days a week because you will get burnt out and just lose your passion and drive for something you love doing. It took me a while to do this but turn your viewer count off as it can really effect your mood and how you come across.
14. Finally, what other content creators do you enjoy watching and recommend people check out?
If you are looking for chilled out Animal Crossing Streams I would recommend BangitsSummer and Meganyy
If you are looking for a more energetic stream that is also 18+ then i would recommend BurntheTiger
